Coordinators

The coordinators

Six people. Three of them precept or have precepted; one holds the program relationships; one pays you; one connects you. Every rotation on NPhours has one of them named on it, and the name does not change mid-term.

Tamsin R.

Tamsin R.

DNP, FNP-BC · Clinical lead

Reads every application and every midpoint evaluation. Has precepted FNP students in a rural family practice since 2014 and still takes one a term. Writes the teaching-method pieces in Off the Clock.

Kwame A.

Kwame A.

PMHNP-BC · Psychiatric lead

Precepts PMHNP students entirely by video from a telepsychiatry practice. Rules on which visit types a program will count remotely, and writes the teleprecepting guidance.

Ravenna S.

Ravenna S.

MSN, RN · Program relations

Holds the relationship with every program's clinical placement office. Drafts affiliation agreements in the school's own template and knows which log system each program uses.

Bexley O.

Bexley O.

Head coordinator

Runs the matching queue and the coordinators who sit on each rotation. The person who answers when a card does not fit your calendar, or a student does not fit your clinic.

Dagny H.

Dagny H.

EA · Payments

An enrolled agent. Pays the two halves of every block, issues the 1099-NEC each January, and keeps the state tax-credit table current. Will not compute your liability; will tell you what to ask your preparer.

Halvard N.

Preceptor onboarding

Runs the 90-minute orientation and the teleprecepting setup. Has connected preceptors on eleven different EMRs to a student login that shows what it should and nothing else.

What a coordinator does on your rotation

Before the card: they confirm your documents cleared the program, that the agreement is signed, and that your preferences are current. On the card: they answer any question you have about the program or the rotation before your 72 hours run out. After you accept: they introduce you and the student, send the student your onboarding list, and put the two evaluation dates on your schedule.

During the rotation: they check the student's log against the calendar at week four and again at the midpoint, chase the program if an evaluation form is late, and take the call when a student is behind, unwell, or not a fit. At the end: they confirm the final evaluation is in, release the second deposit, and ask the program for the letter that documents your hours for recertification. Then they ask whether you want the next card.

What a coordinator will not do

Practice medicine, sit in on a visit, grade a student, or tell a program anything about you that you did not put on your profile. They will also not talk you into a student that does not fit your week; a preceptor who declines three cards and accepts the fourth is worth more to the roster than one who accepts the first and withdraws.
