Shift notes from preceptors on the roster

Twelve notes from preceptors after a rotation closed, in their own words, identified the way a clinic identifies its clinicians: surname, initial, credential, state. Two of the twelve are four stars, and both say why. Filter by track or by mode to find the one nearest your own situation.

★★★★★My first card was an FNP student for the spring term at exactly the hours I had listed: Tuesdays and Thursday mornings. The clinic day slowed for two weeks and then she was writing half my notes. Two deposits, on the two dates the schedule said.
Okonkwo-Reyes, A.FNP-BC · Texas
★★★★★I precept entirely by video. The program's agreement said 100 percent of med-management follow-ups could count for their PMHNP students, and the coordinator had that confirmed in writing before I ever saw the student's name.
Lindqvist, M.PMHNP-BC · Oregon
★★★★★The affiliation agreement with my health system took eleven days and I did not touch it. Program relations sent our legal office the school's own template with the fields already completed.
Battacharya, S.AGPCNP-BC · Michigan
★★★★☆I set $18 an hour and wondered whether anyone would match at that rate. A card came in nine days. The one thing I would change is that my October was empty, which the coordinator had warned me about.
Delacroix-Hale, J.DNP, FNP-C · Georgia
★★★★★Well-child visits with a parent on camera are harder to precept than in person, and the orientation was honest about it. My student did the in-person half with me and the follow-up half by video, exactly as the program allowed.
Nakamura, K.PNP-PC · Washington
★★★★★I am not an NP. I direct a simulation lab, and an MSN education student needed 180 practicum hours in teaching. NPhours matched us in the second week of the term and the log system was the one my university already used.
Adebayo-Finch, T.MSN, RN, CNE · Florida
★★★★★The card said the student wanted contraception counselling and prenatal visits, which is my entire week. She left able to run a first prenatal on her own. The midpoint deposit arrived the day after I signed the evaluation.
Szymanski, R.WHNP-BC · Illinois
★★★★☆Acute care rarely works by video and NPhours said so on the first page I read. My rotation was in the unit, five twelve-hour shifts a month, and the student's hours were logged against my schedule with no argument from the program.
Farouk, N.AGACNP-BC · New York
★★★★★Semi-retired, two video clinics a week, and I wanted to keep my certification active. Precepting counts toward my ANCC renewal and the coordinator reminded me to ask the program for the letter at the end of the term.
Whitcombe, E.FNP-BC · North Carolina
★★★★★A student was behind on hours at the midpoint. I said so on the form, the coordinator called the program the same day, and the program added two weeks. I was paid for the hours actually logged, which is how it should work.
Iyer-Castellanos, P.PMHNP-BC · Arizona
★★★★★Nurse leadership students need a director who will let them sit in on budget meetings. The card described the project the student had to complete, so I knew before accepting that my quarter would fit it.
Bergström, L.MSN, RN, NEA-BC · Minnesota
★★★★★Rural clinic, one student a term, and Colorado's rural preceptor credit on top. The payments page told me the credit might not stack with a paid rotation and to ask my preparer. I did, and it does for my situation.
Ojeda-Marsh, C.FNP-C · Colorado
